President Donald Trump has threatened to fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, stating that he could do so any time he wants. Trump made this comment while speaking from the Oval Office alongside Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. He expressed his dissatisfaction with Powell, blaming him for keeping interest rates high and accused him of playing politics. Trump’s statement comes as he ramps up pressure on Powell to cut short-term interest rates. Trump has also posted on his social media site Truth, expressing his desire for Powell’s termination to come as soon as possible. However, the Federal Reserve has not budged on its stance.
